Lemon Verbena

A perennial  flowering shrub with pretty light green pointed leaves and sprays of tiny lilac or white flowers in late summer.    The plant has a strong lemony scent smelt when you rub the leaves.  The plant can grow up to 3 metres (10ft) in height

It’s used a lot in cooking from flavouring fish and poultry to marinades and dressings. 

Medicinal - it’s easy to make a herbal tea.

Where to Grow

Well drained soil preferable with a bit of shelter.  It can be grown in pots and bought inside over winter in cooler climates - in the tropics it grows all year round.

Prune in springtime to encourage a well rounded bush.

Tip - a good plant for making potpourri
